Notes The leather and gilt are clean and bright. Binding is tight and square. Light rubbed to leather at the edges and occasional superficial scuff to boards. Front hinge has a split to the leather from the tail of the spine. Some foxing and age toning to prelims. Very light occasionally foxing to pages. A very nice copy of this signed binding.

Description

Hardback. Beautifully bound by Riviere in full decorative leather, these are lyric that Irish poet Thomas Moore wrote to set to traditional Irish tunes. they are English language verse to old Irish tunes. the poems and songs were incredibly popular during his life and were praise by Lord Byron and Sir Walter Scott. They were translated many times and other musical setting produced including ones by Hector Berlioz. Soem of best know are "The Last Rose of Summer", "The Minstrel Boy", "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms" and "Oft in the Stilly Night" . The book is illustrated throughout by fellow Irish man Daniel Maclise R.A. with decorative borders and vignettes to every page with some further full page engravings. Full green leather is heavily decorated in gilt to spine and to both boards. Gilt to all edges. Raise bands to spine. Gilt dentelles. Marbled endpapers.
